I know this is going to sound really odd, but he looks like Benedict dressed as Sherlock here, rather than Sherlock. Maybe it’s just in my head, but he looks really different!
That doesn’t sound odd at all, because that’s exactly what he looks like. He’s not in character. It’s just another example of what a spookily good actor he is that his whole person looks different, even in a still photograph, when he’s out of character. He somehow makes himself look physically distinct, and it’s amazing.

Same here! I saw Benedict, not Sherlock.
I’ve only encountered a few actors where I’m able to do this. Benedict Cumberbatch, Misha Collins, and Tom Hiddleston are the only ones that come to mind immediately. And it blows my mind every time, that they can alter themselves so completely without altering themselves at all. I can’t explain why this is Benedict and not Sherlock. It just is.
